About Schacht... From Boulder, Colorado, Schacht Spindle Company, Inc. was founded during the back-to-earth movement of the late 1960's and its accompanying craft resurgence. Spinning Wheels

     Schacht Matchless Spinning Wheels are the most responsive spinning wheel available today. Whether you choose single treadle or double treadle action, you'll appreciate our wheels' matchless capabilities.

     The Schacht Spinning Wheel offers double drive, Scotch tension, and bobbin lead modes of operation. Wheels come with two flyer whorls; five other flyer whorls offer spinning ratios from 4:1 to 27.5:1.

     The 19 1/2" drive wheel and flyer shaft are supported by self-aligning bronze bearings for precise action. Each flyer is individually balanced and the bobbins and flyer whorls are trued on center for long and superior service.

     Also included with each Schacht Spinning Wheel are: its own adjustable carrying strap, two drive bands, a threading hook, a lazy Kate, and four bobbins.

Schacht Hand Carders We've built a lifetime of service into our hand carders. They have a small lip milled into the rear edge of the paddle to protect the card clothing from becoming worn and the handles have been precisely tenoned into the paddles for superior strength. Our wool carders are available in two gauges of carding cloth: 72 points per square inch (an all purpose carding cloth), and 112 points per square inch (great for fine wool and downy fibers). All carders are available with curved or straight backs(special order). Our cotton carders are wider than our wool carders and are also available with curved or straight-backed paddles. With 208 points per square inch, our cotton cards are excellent for cotton and other short fibers. Our flick carder is a small, single carder with 72 points per inch. It is used to separate and tease fibers in preparation for spinning by working the fiber against either a stiff piece of leather or heavy canvas.

Schacht Hand Spindles Our popular drop spindles just got better. Our new Hi-Lo Spindles offer the best of both whorls: a brass hook at the top for high-whorl spinning and a grooved shaft for low-whorl spinning. Three sizes offer a broad spectrum of spinning capabilities: 3" (2.2 ounces), 4" (3 ounces), and 2" (1.1 ounces). The 3� has a new, thinner profile that resembles our traditional 4� spindle. Schacht Ladybug Spinning Wheel The Ladybug Spinning Wheel is friendly to entry-level spinners, easy to treadle, easy to take with you, and�as cute as a bug! The Ladybug has the characteristic solid Schacht construction and its unique design is both functional and charming. Designed-in carrying handles in the legs and light weight make the Ladybug easy to pick up and transport. An optional attached tensioned Lazy Kate integrates into the front leg and makes it easy to take along, too! The Ladybug Spinning Wheel uses Scotch tension, and can also be used in double drive mode. The Ladybug comes with medium and fast flyer whorls; the slow and high speed whorls can also be used for a wide range of ratios.
